This city was constructed by Rawal Jaisal Singh in the year of 1156 AD. Jaisalmer district is close to the border with Pakistan and is situated in Thar Desert. The famous Havelis, temples, the lake and the sheer beauty of surrounding desert makes this place worth a visit. This is a fort lake city surrounded by a protection wall. Jaisalmer is 640 km from Jaipur and 850 km from Delhi.

  1. How to reach Jaisalmer

    Road: Smooth network of roads and luxury coaches connect Jaisalmer to all the major cities of Rajasthan such as Bikaner, Jaipur and Jodhpur. The main Bus Stand is situated near the Railway Station, but all the major buses are available from a Bus Depot situated at the city centre.

    Rail: There are daily trains to Jaisalmer from Jodhpur, which is well linked to all the major cities by the network of trains such as Agra, Jaipur, New Delhi, Mumbai and many more.

    Air: Jaisalmer is well connected by the flights too, like from New Delhi, Jodhpur and Jaipur. The Jaisalmer Airport is in the cantonment area, which is 5 km away from the city center and is managed by the Indian Air Force. It is operational only from September to March, the prime season

  2. The Jaisalmer Fort -

    Built over the Trikuta hill, this fort is the biggest and the most beautiful landmark of the city. This is one of the oldest Forts of Rajasthan situated on a hill this fort is surrounded by 15 ft. high wall of solid masonry. Huge guns and stones were kept on the walls to protect against the attacks. The fort is occupied by shops, stalls, and a number of other business concerns. This fort accommodates quarter of the city's population. Royal Palace - Inside the fort Royal Palace is situated. Several other beautiful buildings and gates are situated inside the fort.

  3. Jain Temples -

    There are many Jain temples in Jaisalmerin including a 12th century Jain temple inside the Fort. The main temples are temple of Sambhavanathji, temple of Parsvanathji, temple of Rishabhdevji and temple of Mahavir Swami. The Jain temple of Lodhruva, which reminds of the glory of the former capital city Lodhruva, is worth visiting.

  4. Patvon-ki-haveli -

    There are several beautiful buildings in Jaisalmer but the Havelis of Patvas built in 18th century is most famous. These Havelis have unique design and architecture. Other famous havelis are Salem Singh's Haveli and Nathmal's Haveli.

  5. Gadsisar Lake

    The lake was built by Maharaja Amar Singh in the early 18th century. On its bank there are several Jain temples and a garden. There is also a temple built by Maharaja Moolji in the early 19th century.

  6. Desert Culture Center and Museum

    - is another place that would give the visitor a clear insight of the place. The museum has a number of old coins, different kinds of textile, traditional Rajasthani instruments, and some fossils that were found in the desert.

  7. Desert National Park

    This is another place that preserves the natural ecosystem of the desert land. Cactus, thorny trees and shrubs could be seen growing here. There are also some animal species like the monitor lizard, desert foxes, porcupines and black bucks here.

  8. Sam Sand Dune -

    Situated at the edge of the Thar Desert, this place attracts many tourists. This sandy place is famous for watching sunset and taking a camel ride.
